Some Amazing Women Coming Up in 2019

Some Amazing Women Coming Up in 2019

After spending some wonderful downtime with myself and my family for Thanksgiving, it is time for me to break away from my cocoon and get back to work and close out the end of 2018.

Holidays are always so wonderful spent with family and friends and being able to unplug from my busy, busy, busy life and take some time to just stop and breathe.

After taking some unexpected time off, but clearly so necessary for my mind, body and spirit, I am back at work interviewing fabulous women for an upcoming Women on the Move episode.

There are some amazing women coming up in 2019 and I am so grateful to be able to share their stories with the world.

Emily Perl Kingsley was a writer for Sesame Street for nearly 5 decades. The 23 Emmy Award winner created the first characters on television with disabilities and the first network television movie that featured a disabled person.

Elaine Adler heads the Adler Aphasia Center which is the leading organization for Aphasia in the world. Her and her husband started the center when he developed the condition. I was told Elaine’s age prior to meeting her, but when I saw her in person, I had to ask her myself because I couldn’t believe it. She looks so fabulous!

Di’ta Monique has an unbelievable story of survival. If I hadn’t been the person to find her and produce her story, I probably wouldn’t have believed it myself. This singer and actress’ story will surely make you a believer in the impossible. We all had tears in our eyes as she shared her story when we filmed yesterday.

I will keep you posted on the airing dates of these amazing women as their stories are all absolutely worth watching when they air.

As the year comes to a close and I look forward to 2019, I am overwhelmed and utterly grateful for the abundance present in my life. Thank you all for being a part of my journey. The ride just wouldn’t be the same without you here sharing it with me.

I excitedly await all to come in 2019!

The Event Against Domestic Violence – Part 2

The Event Against Domestic Violence – Part 2

This is a continuation of Part 1.

Sandra Ramos, the founder of Strengthen Our Sisters, has spent decades fighting the judicial system, politicians, and the powers that be for the rights of women, in particular battered women and children. Although Sandra sees this work as part of her greater civil rights work, the women and children of domestic violence are the ones that have seen the greatest benefit from her ongoing efforts.

Sandra can often be found protesting in front of courthouses and governmental agencies forcing institutional changes to occur for the benefit of women and children. She has dedicated the last 50 years of her life to stop this ongoing epidemic against women and children and at 77 years old, she has no signs of slowing down.

The women from Sandra’s shelter shared their stories of escaping from their abusers and finding refuge in Sandra’s arms, both literally and figuratively. They were able to get a new start in life, recover from the harsh realities of their past and have the chance to create a safer and healthier life for themselves and their children – all because of Sandra and her unyielding work.

Housing over 150 women and children, Strengthen Our Sisters has a store, 2 day care centers, a food pantry and a beauty salon. The shelter has not only housed battered and abused women but, at times, has also served as employment for many who call the shelter home.

Although Sandra has had to contend with financial hardships since the government cut her funding in 2012, Sandra continues to push forward in an attempt to provide all battered women and children in need a safe place to call home. If she did not do so, many would have to return to the abusive person they fled.

Many of her clients that spoke at the event said they have no idea if they would even be alive if it wasn’t for Strengthen Our Sisters. They said they owe their lives to Sandra and the work of the shelter.

Thank you greatly to Serendipity Labs for partnering with us for such an amazing, powerful event.

The Event Against Domestic Violence – Part 1

The Event Against Domestic Violence – Part 1

Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of violence towards women in America. The stats show that it is the #1 reason police officers are called in the US. It was important to me to shed some light on this often forgotten epidemic during the month of October – Domestic Violence month.

When I found out years ago that the #1 reason why police officers are called is because of domestic violence incidents, I was really surprised. Although I knew domestic violence was prevalent, I never thought it was so wildly occurring where it would be the #1 reason why a police officer would be called to a scene.

During the domestic violence event, I interviewed Sandra Ramos, the woman who started the very first women and children shelter in North America. Sandra is featured in an upcoming episode of “Women on the Move.”

Sandra has quite an inspirational, powerful story of what she had to overcome to achieve such a feat and change the lives of thousands in the process. There just wasn’t enough time on the show to share the greater part of her amazing journey. So, I thought it would be wonderful to interview her live so others could be inspired and motivated by her work.

When Sandra first started this heroic endeavor, it was not with the intention of becoming the first to lead such a momentous plight, she was simply motivated by the need of those she saw around her that were in need of help. Therefore, in 1971, she decided to open up her home in Hackensack NJ, with her 3 children, to those who were in need of shelter and protection from the world of abuse they were longing to escape.

Behind the Scenes of the Premiere Women On the Move Show!

Behind the Scenes of the Premiere Women On the Move Show!

What a wonderful time it was taping the premiere show of Women on the Move in Chicago. Women on the Move is a nationally syndicated television show that features inspirational women doing great work in the world and their communities (check your local listing for the airing information in your city). The location for the premiere show was on the acclaimed Michigan Avenue in a skyscraper overlooking the city’s most iconic sites.

What a blessing it has been to be chosen for such an amazing opportunity and how divinely orchestrated it is to have such lovely people involved with the show.

The image of the cameraman and myself was taken while we were trying to catch the right amount of light coming through the glass walls. I am practicing the script in my head as making sure I had all my lines down was no small feat. But everyone was so kind and helpful to me that day. There was such an amazing energy in the air!

Many people have wondered how I was chosen for the show. I was selected after being featured as one of the inspirational women. It is as I tell my clients all the time.

If you do not emerge out in the world, no one will even know that you exist.

Had I not been busy doing my work, out on my Revenue Revolution Tour, I would have never been featured as a woman on the show and thereby become a part of it.

Spending time in Chicago for the show has been such a great experience. Most of my time was spent in the beautiful areas of the Magnificent Mile and the Gold Coast. We have events in Chicago for the show as well as other cites throughout the season.

Being the ultimate foodie (eating good food is one of the greatest joys of my life), it has been such a joy eating at some of the lovely restaurants in Chicago and seeing some of the amazing sites of the city. I will share my favorite food in Chicago and things to do there in a later post.

I am so excited about all to come from Women on the Move and grateful to have it as a part of my journey.
