How the Spirit of the People of Hawaii Brought Me to Tears

How the Spirit of the People of Hawaii Brought Me to Tears

From my very first trip to Hawaii over two decades ago, I felt the People of Hawaii were among the most amazing, beautiful group of humans I had ever encountered. Today, all these years later, I feel exactly the same.

I thought I was going to Hawaii on the final days of 2019 to share with these extraordinary people all about the ability to grow their businesses at top speed in 2020. Well… shame on me, the real sharing and learning flowed in the opposite direction and I was the one who received abundantly.

Before I even started speaking, just hearing the heart-filled introductions and stories of this unique group of entrepreneurs had tears welling up in my eyes. The spirit of these triumphant people began to speak to me the moment I was within their energy field, long before their words ever could.

It is always so interesting to hear the stories we’ve never learned. The stories that were never taught and the stories that are yet to be learned.

From the first time I came to these islands over two decades ago, I knew there was something special here. There was something different from other places I had visited. The spirit of the People of Hawaii is nearly palpable.

After the event, while talking to Kaue, a Hawaiian father who used the pain of losing his son to help support others in healing during difficult times and grief, I learned about some of the greatest challenges the People of Hawaii face at this time. Oddly, similar to the story of African-Americans on the mainland, many Hawaiians struggle with challenges from drug abuse to finding their wholeness in a land that is no longer their own.

I will be covering many of their stories this year. From the telescope controversy where Hawaiians physically blocked the road to prevent the building of the world telescope on their sacred Mauna Kea mountain top to the stories of those who are fighting to keep the history and culture of the native Hawaiian alive.

I look forward to giving a voice to many here. And lending my voice to those who are standing firm in the last designation of what they know and claim to be their own.

I am excited and grateful to spend time with my Hawaiian brothers and sisters in 2020 on their native land. And to bring life to some of the most uncommon stories of the extraordinary people on the islands of Hawaii.

The Importance of Developing Into Your Wholeness

The Importance of Developing Into Your Wholeness

Being whole is not just a state of mind. It is developing and deciding to live in the fullness of all areas of your life. It does not mean that there isn’t work for you to do or places for you to grow, but what it does mean is that you are already filled to a critical level in all essential areas of your life.

Being truly whole prevents you from succumbing to the falsities that many people will attempt to sell you along the way. It will allow you to dig deeper knowing that your foundational well is already filled and you don’t need to seek permission nor approval from others to make you feel good and fulfilled within yourself.

When people are lacking in significant areas that is when they are most vulnerable to the actions, thoughts and opinions that others try to insert into their lives. That is when those people, either conscious or unconsciously, use the gaps, holes and shortcomings to manipulate what you may feel about yourself, think about yourself or even claim to know about yourself.

These spaces of emptiness may appear as insecurity, be grounded in fears or simply be incorrect thinking. But no matter what it is you must know that you can recover from whatever ails you if you are willing to acknowledge what exists and do the work to overcome it.

The work may look like therapy. You may need to focus on improving a particular area of your life or it can be connected to learning a different way of thinking. Whatever it may be, doing what is necessary to fill the gaps will be far more beneficial for you than trying to avoid what can ultimately draw great harm to you.

success

If you don’t feel as if you’re already whole, start working on the areas you think need improvement so you can build your own security wall that is unpenetrable for those who may try to prey on you, while you are on your way to completing your wholeness. Even those with good intentions can end up doing tremendous harm to you if you are vulnerable to particular actions and words that people send your way.

Always be open to working on and developing into your wholeness. It will serve you and your life in ways you cannot even imagine.

The Ever Present Element of Fear – Part 2

The Ever Present Element of Fear – Part 2

This is a continuation of Part 1.

I have had to deal with a great amount of fear in my own life. So, what I know for sure about it is that there’s no way to get to the other side of it without facing it and working through it head on.

For me, one of my greatest fears was around writing, because of the words of a teacher many years ago. That sentence of only five words, “you have a writing problem” would sink me into a writing depression that lasted for well over a decade of my life. But what I know now, on the other side of that experience, is that it was nothing but a tremendous blessing in disguise for me. In later years, my writings would become the model for other students to study and follow when writing their own papers.

If I didn’t find the courage to walk through that test, I would have never received the abundance of blessings on the other side of that fear and they have been bountiful. They include becoming an attorney, writing books, writing for news programs, writing as a newspaper reporter, writing for my current television show, Women on the Move, and even writing for this blog. You see, had I not found the courage to address and fight through the fear of writing, all of the blessings to come from it would not currently exist as part of my life.

Although it may seem difficult at times, even impossible, what I want you to know for sure is that anything is possible if you have faith (even if it’s borrowed at times), if you are willing to show up to do the work and if you are willing to fight your way to the other side. I absolutely believe that some of your greatest blessings in this life are waiting for you there.

Finding Stillness

Finding Stillness

It is critically important that we find places and spaces which speak to our inner being. A space that allows us to get a break from all the noise that consumes us during the hectic, chaotic days of our normal lives. Although not intentional, our consumed living takes a toll on us mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We need a safe space to be able to pour back into ourselves and to restore ourselves anew.

Stillness is extremely important to me. It is when I’m able to quiet my mind and receive the necessary information I need to proceed.

I sometimes find such stillness at the ocean. The ocean soothes me. It soothes my soul. I love going to it when I need to just check in with myself and my world. It is one of the best places for me to find my stillness.

Another great place for me to tap into my stillness is when I run. I know this seems very odd because I am in movement, but it is indeed a stilling space for me. I call running my moving meditation. As I’m running, any potential heaviness that can consume me subsides. I can be freed from work, commitments, deadlines and the overwhelming elements that can be heavy to carry at times.

When I’m in my stillness, lots of great ideas and concepts come to me. It is often in our free time when inspiration can truly find us and make itself known. I keep a journal of all the great ideas that come to me when I run. It’s very interesting to reflect on it at a later time. These ideas would never come to me at any other time without being in the space of stillness, even moving stillness.

If you are open, stillness has a magical way of allowing you to contemplate the most important aspects of your life and release the thoughts and ideas which no longer serve you. It supports the renewing of your body, mind and spirit to fly higher, to go further, to dig deeper.

Depending on where you are, finding stillness can be an ever daunting task. But once you have become practiced in it for a while, you can literally find stillness in the most non-stilling environments.

The Importance of Leaving Dead Things Dead

The Importance of Leaving Dead Things Dead

You can’t move forward and welcome new things, experiences and people into your life if you are still giving time, emotions, attention and energy to the dead things from your past.

It is important to clear the space and energy so what you truly desire can have the room and space to enter. Otherwise, you may be blocking all of what you claim you want from entering into your life.

It could be a person. It could be a situation. It could be an experience. Whatever it is, life will give you an abundance of opportunities to teach you that some things are meant to die right where they lay. They are not meant to be revived.

the-past

All things from your past may not be completely dead. You have to look at the totality of the situation to determine if it is something that is worth breathing life into or if it is something that should simply be left there to die. If you live your life consciously, life will give you the signs you need to determine exactly how to proceed.

Many times what we do, despite seeing the signs, is determine what it is that we want and decide accordingly based on that fact alone. We do it in relationships. We do it in different situations. We do it based on different occurrences that happen in our lives.

guidance

Sometimes it’s not that your blessings are delayed. Sometimes it’s the people you keep around and the circumstances you keep living in that can be blocking your blessings. Until you are able and willing to shift your own life’s circumstances nothing else new will be ushered in.

Leave dead things dead. Run on to see what blessings and life lie ahead for you. It very well may be far greater than you could have ever imagined it would be holding on to the people, circumstances and things from your past.
