The Top 5 Reasons Why Fear Can Block You From Your Greatest Dreams In Business and In Life – Part 2

The Top 5 Reasons Why Fear Can Block You From Your Greatest Dreams In Business and In Life – Part 2

This is a continuation of Part 1.

4. It Can Make You Settle for Mediocracy

You know deep down you don’t want to settle. Everything in your body, mind and spirit tells you that you should not be satisfied with being mediocre, but you look at those around you and there is more mediocrity than not. So, you make yourself believe that being mediocre is good enough for you as well.

I have a client who is currently struggling with this. She is allowing fear to block her from reaching what she knows is greater for her. From saying she’s not qualified, doesn’t have enough experience (over 20 years), doesn’t know enough (holds a masters degree in the field) and just overall isn’t good enough.

She has put up blocks in all directions to prevent her from doing what’s necessary to move herself forward in her business, which would help to move her forward in her life. She was ready to succumb to just staying in mediocrity. But I refuse to grant her permission to live on that side of town.

5. It Will Have You Choose What Is Easy Rather Than What is Best For You

How do I know so much about this? Because I’ve had to overcome a great deal of fear in my own life. Fear that was keeping me stuck and unable to move forward. A fear that was preventing me from living the divinely designed life that was awaiting me on the other side of it. I’ve had to face fears and trauma around writing, school, people and animals among other things. When I think back on it now, after overcoming so much of it, the memory is as if I was fearful of almost everything!

What a blessing it is to be free from most of these ailments. I refused to surrender my future to fear. And every time you allow fear to win, you are sacrificing the greatness of your future for the smallness of your fear.

Imagine if I allowed my fears to win. I would not have been able to help the thousands of people I have through the work I do. I wouldn’t be able to live with the freeness I do in my life today. And ultimately, I would not be able to live my best and highest life.

I know what it means to have fears rule your life and what’s required to eliminate them by regular and consistent actions. When I get stuck, I just think of those whose lives and businesses have been changed through me truly showing up in the fullness of who I am in the world. A me without fear. And I am then strengthened to be able to push through again.

We can often do more for others than we are even willing to do for ourselves. So, if you need to think of your children, family, loved ones, legacy, whatever it takes for you to move, use it to push you through.

The world is awaiting you. And so am I, once you make it to the other side of your fear.

The Importance of Leaving Dead Things Dead

The Importance of Leaving Dead Things Dead

You can’t move forward and welcome new things, experiences and people into your life if you are still giving time, emotions, attention and energy to the dead things from your past.

It is important to clear the space and energy so what you truly desire can have the room and space to enter. Otherwise, you may be blocking all of what you claim you want from entering into your life.

It could be a person. It could be a situation. It could be an experience. Whatever it is, life will give you an abundance of opportunities to teach you that some things are meant to die right where they lay. They are not meant to be revived.

the-past

All things from your past may not be completely dead. You have to look at the totality of the situation to determine if it is something that is worth breathing life into or if it is something that should simply be left there to die. If you live your life consciously, life will give you the signs you need to determine exactly how to proceed.

Many times what we do, despite seeing the signs, is determine what it is that we want and decide accordingly based on that fact alone. We do it in relationships. We do it in different situations. We do it based on different occurrences that happen in our lives.

guidance

Sometimes it’s not that your blessings are delayed. Sometimes it’s the people you keep around and the circumstances you keep living in that can be blocking your blessings. Until you are able and willing to shift your own life’s circumstances nothing else new will be ushered in.

Leave dead things dead. Run on to see what blessings and life lie ahead for you. It very well may be far greater than you could have ever imagined it would be holding on to the people, circumstances and things from your past.

The Importance of a Lifeline

The Importance of a Lifeline

We all have times in our lives when we’re just not feeling so great about things. It is part of the ebb and flow of life. The important thing to know is that during those moments you have a lifeline to reach out and hold on to.

You have to identify a resource for you to tap into that helps pull you through difficult times. It can allow you to have momentary breakthroughs to see that things are not nearly as bad as they seem.

Your lifeline can be an inspirational book. It can be a special place. It can be a specific person.

A lifeline should be a support system that helps to remind you that things will get better. It helps to support and elevate your level of thought so you know that this is but a moment in time.

Life can and will be very uncertain at times. There are times of despair. There are times of experiencing tremendous fears. There are times of excruciating traumas. Any and all of these times can allow someone to feel as if nothing will ever improve. People can feel as if they will never be able to push through that place. And that can be a terrifying space.

What is absolutely essential for you to understand is that these times will not always consume you. To the contrary, they are but moments in time. Don’t be in despair, don’t allow such a moment to penetrate your greater knowing. Knowing that your life destiny is far greater than what you can currently see. Hold on to faith – your breakthrough is just ahead of you.

Seek out a lifeline. Seek out a person, place, inspirational reading or organization to help pull you through your harder days. There is a better, higher reason for your being. Borrow my faith for you to help pull yourself through until you’re able to see it for yourself.

Are Entrepreneurs Born or Made?

Are Entrepreneurs Born or Made?

What an interesting question to ask. Entrepreneurs are the backbone of American business. Small businesses are the engine of the US economy and account for the creation of the majority of new jobs in the country. Some of the greatest minds of our time are entrepreneurs. Many believe entrepreneurs are born with certain skills, abilities and characteristics that give them an advantage to succeed as an entrepreneur. Others believe absolutely not. They think that many or all of the skills required to be a successful entrepreneur can be taught. I happen to believe the answer is both.

I believe there are people that are born entrepreneurs. It’s just in their blood – their DNA. These are individuals who regardless of their environment or exposure, they were just born with the natural attributes to become a successful entrepreneur. What are those qualities you might ask? There are many, but some of the essential ones are determination, tenacity, problem-solving and creativity. You don’t have to have equal amounts of each, but you must have an abundance of the most vital ones. Those would be around endurance, perseverance and grit.

The road of entrepreneurship is not an easy one to travel, so you must have an unrelenting commitment to see it through.

Even with that, I absolutely believe that you can be taught many important skills required to be a successful business owner and entrepreneur. These teachings can make an entrepreneur soar. Many of these are related to business principles and leadership.

I often think of myself when reflecting on this topic. Has my serial entrepreneurial journey come from what was already inside of me or was it developed from being raised in a home of entrepreneurs? My first jobs were working in my family businesses – parking garages and working on homes to rent. My dinner table conversations were around the stock market and what types of businesses could be created to fill the gaps in particular areas.

I certainly don’t believe that those elements in my life were meaningless. But I definitely don’t think I would have been able to do it had there not been some of the vital characteristics already inside of me to draw from, such as an undying will to persevere. Entrepreneurship can be grueling. It is not a trek for the weary. So, if you don’t possess some of these fundamental components already, you very possibly may not endure. And those are characteristics that are very difficult to teach, if they are even teachable at all.

monique-manigault-on-entrepreneurship

I think the best entrepreneurs are the ones that are smart enough and wise enough to know that whether you were born an entrepreneur or you developed into one the smartest and most effective entrepreneurs are those who know you must continue to learn and grow as an entrepreneur. You cannot just rest on your laurels.

Regardless of how you became an entrepreneur, if you don’t understand the critical importance of continuing to expand in that role, you will be doomed to run into tremendous challenges, setbacks and often defeats as a result of you simply being left behind. You will be at a huge disadvantage, because the world, including business, continues to evolve.

If you are not willing to keep up and expand your mind, you will essentially remove yourself completely from the entrepreneurship lane.

monique-manigault-on-entrepreneurship

Which do you think? Are entrepreneurs born or are they made?

I can’t wait to read your comments!

The Misconception of Failure

The Misconception of Failure

Many of you who have heard me speak know that I had been greatly affected financially (like so many Americans) by what is now termed, “The Great Recession.” As a real estate attorney, broker, investor and developer, I was hit very hard by the real estate bust.

I was speaking with a new client yesterday and she was sharing with me how deeply affected she was by that time and how it makes her feel like a failure. That sentiment is shared by many and the affects from the recession are still very present in the lives of many Americans today. It has been a reoccurring theme I’ve been hearing a lot lately from clients and just from people in general which moved me to write about it today.

So, I just want to share with you what I shared with the client that I spoke to last night.

monique-manigault-on-failure

Failure and disappointment is something I’ve talked about repeatedly on Women on the Move. Although, I myself don’t even believe in so called “failures,” I do understand that the vast majority of people think in those terms. I happen to believe that every life experience comes to teach us a lesson. And if the lesson is learned from the experience, how could it possibly be deemed a failure? But for the purpose of this blog post, I will use the word failure in the way it is most commonly used.

Having obstacles and challenges to overcome in this life do not make you a failure.

You must pick up the coat of failure and put it on to claim it. It is not mandated for you.

You have to take the lessons that come from them, dust yourself off and push yourself forward. You can’t imprison yourself in a space and place that doesn’t allow you to move forward, because that just doesn’t serve you.

monique-manigault-on-failure

So, if you are in that place and space, whatever the failure in your mind may be, you must release it. It could be a perceived failure in a business, relationship, situation or a dream. I now ask you to let that perceived failure go. Take a moment to grieve it, if you so need. Cry, scream, get angry, write your feelings and disappointments down, do whatever you need to do to release it and then very simply – let it go. You must let it go.

Because if you don’t let it go, it will haunt you and it will destroy anything, and everything, you attempt to do moving forward. There’s a great quote by Iyanla Vanzant that says, “until you heal the wounds of your past, you will continue to bleed.” And it will bleed in ways that you don’t even know. It will bleed into and onto things that you will be totally and completely unconscious about.

monique-manigault-on-failure

So, my prayer for you is that you learn to let it go and instead of sitting in the pain of that perceived failure and disappointment, you courageously get up, run on and proceed to your next level of being. I will be praying for you to get there and holding space for you there until you do.
