The 5 Reasons Why I Now Call Asia Home – Part 1

The 5 Reasons Why I Now Call Asia Home – Part 1

The longest flight in the world is from New York’s Newark Liberty Airport to the country of Singapore. It is over 9,500 miles and takes nearly 19 hours. Little did I know, when I boarded that flight to the other side of the world that everything I currently knew in my life was about to change.

That is the amazing gift of life. You just never know what might be waiting for you just around the corner. Everything can change in just an instant if you are open to the abundance of gifts life has in store for you.

1. Because My Soul Tells Me So

One thing I have known even before I started this current human journey is the gifting of allowing my soul to lead the way. I allow this ever knowing compass to guide me in all areas of my life as it knows what’s best for me and is ever calling me to go higher.

Upon arriving in Singapore my soul knew that I was finally home. As much as I have loved and enjoyed other places I have traveled like Hawaii, Southern Italy, Switzerland among others and a few cities in the US, nothing has resonated with me and my soul outside of New York City as Asia has. My soul just knew it was home.

The interesting thing about this is that it has always known. The sole reason I was invited to Asia was because of the connection a friend knows I felt to Asia and they wanted me to experience it for myself first hand. And boy were they right! I often say, “I am an Asian girl trapped inside of a Black girl’s body.” I now know my friend was used to guide me there. I have a lot of work and living to do in Asia and I’m excited to get started!

2. Its Culture Feels Very Familiar to Me

I have always felt very intimately connected to the culture of Asia – from its food, art, architectural design and philosophy around health and wellness. I have also been drawn to their use of naturopathic medicine to cure diseases and ailments. All of these elements have felt ever so connected to my world and life.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta has a fabulous series on CNN called “Chasing Life” where he explores some of the places in the world that are leading the planet in areas of longevity, nutrition, health and wellness – to no surprise some of those places are on the continent of Asia.

My family owned Chinese restaurants in NYC for years, which I know seems very odd to many, but seems so very normal to me. The decision for them to start Chinese restaurants did not come from me, but the mere existence of them as part of my life had a deeper level of resonance with me and my ties to the Asian culture.

My Sacred Spiritual Mornings

My Sacred Spiritual Mornings

My mornings are very sacred to me. I have always built time for my spirituality and self reflection in the mornings of my life before plugging into the often hectic world that I am often a part of.

In an ever so crazy world and my ever so crazy life at times, I’ve always known the importance of staying spiritually grounded and connected to me. In many ways, it is my superpower. My ability to silence the world and focus deep within allows me to get greater grounding, introspection and gives me the space to receive orders for my next positioning.

My mornings are free from telephones, emails, text messages, the needs of others that can be consuming and just allows me to focus solely on myself and my needs. What a tremendous gift that is to myself.

Sometimes it may be short, but normally it is hours that I block out to give myself the freedom to just be still in meditation, contemplation, reflection, sometimes reading and active movement. Most days it includes a physical workout which I deem as spiritual – the moving and stretching expands my physical capacity and mental stability.

Depending on the season, I will do different things. Most often it is a moving meditation of yoga, walking and running. I receive some of my greatest messages for business and life during this time.

I often wonder when this information would come to me if I didn’t have this practice, because it is a direct line of actions that never come to me at any other time.

I intentionally block out the world during this sacred time and use it to pour solely back into myself.

monique-yoga

When you are a person who is constantly pouring out, giving, offering, it is essential that you mandate the time to refill and give back to yourself. That is your responsibility. Because no one will do it for you nor grant you the time and serenity to do it for yourself. I am so grateful that I learned that lesson a very long time ago and in doing that I’ve given myself a tremendous gift that allows me to do more, be more and to show up for others more fully in a way that I just could never show up if I was coming from a place of depletion.

Try giving yourself some time to solely pour back into yourself. It doesn’t have to be in the morning. Perhaps the evening or afternoon would be better for you, but be sure to designate that time to give yourself physically, mentally and spiritually what you need to set you on the course for showing up and participating in your life at a higher level – and to give you and your relationships what they need to thrive.

What Does It All Really Mean?

What Does It All Really Mean?

People will do almost anything for money. That refers to monumental things as well as minute things. The question for today is what do you value and what exactly are you willing to sacrifice for it?

I was recently talking to a friend who is an executive at a startup. She shared with me how overwhelmed she’s been and her inability to balance being the mother she wants to be with being the executive she’s forced to be.

She talked about not having enough time with her children and the 24/7 requirements of her position. She said her toddler recently said to her, “Mom, I love when we go on vacation, because you actually talk to me.”

I asked her what that meant to her and what she was going to do about it. She said that her children don’t care about having a nanny. They want the time from her and her husband. I said that children don’t care about all the stuff that we have. They’d rather have less stuff and more time with her. She said although they don’t care about the stuff, she really wanted to be an executive in her career.

What did it really mean when she started the conversation with all that really matters are the people in our lives? Because now when the opportunity is revealed, making the “people’s” decision appears difficult.

If your children feel you can’t even talk to them regularly, perhaps it’s time for the million dollar house to go and a more affordable house is purchased for the sanctity of your children’s rearing, your own peace of mind and your life.

We often are the creators of the overwhelming burdens we face in our lives.

Imagine if we did something different. Imagine if we just focused on what truly mattered and nothing else, instead of focusing on what we thought mattered. What an amazing, rewarding life we could all create for ourselves.

Why the Right Branding Can Make Your Business Boom

Why the Right Branding Can Make Your Business Boom

Branding has been very much on trend in the business world over the last several years. So much so that entrepreneurs can spend anywhere from $3,000 to over $30,000 to have someone come up with the perfect brand for them.

The perfect branding speaks to exactly what your business represents. It’s tied to its ideas, beliefs, principles and many other factors that speak to those that come in contact with your business and brand.

Great branding can give you opportunities that your business doesn’t even necessarily deserve. You can lack the experience, and even the knowledge in some cases, but if your branding is powerful – you can definitely win the race.

People love to see beautiful images, photography, polished graphics, effective messaging, professional logos and consistency throughout the different areas of your brand and business.

The right branding will attract potential customers, clients and partners to you. It will draw the attention of those who might want to get to better know you, your business, and your offerings.

Your brand shows up in the room before you and stays long after you are gone.

I have received a variety of offerings specifically from people being attracted to our brand. I was hired a couple of years ago to be the keynote speaker for a major city event by a person who was attracted to the branding from one of our Facebook ads.

I also received an offer from a Bravo star who was interested in going into business with me. My branding attracted her to me. Unfortunately, her brand repelled me from working with her.

The last example I will share was when I was offered to be on a panel of a major city event. There was a famous author and filmmaker who was going to be a part of it as well. Solely based on the branding of my business, they reduced the author’s compensation so that they could include me and they paid me a higher fee than they paid her. That is the power of great, effective branding.

Spend some time today thinking about what your business represents and the messaging it’s putting out in the world as well as the brand you are creating for yourself as an individual. For many entrepreneurs, both the brand of your business as well as the branding for yourself as an individual are affecting your business’ bottom line.

The Top 5 Things to do When Your Business is in a Lull – Part 2

The Top 5 Things to do When Your Business is in a Lull – Part 2

This is a continuation of Part 1.

3. Change Your Mindset

Although you may feel responsible for where your business is, your continual abuse to yourself will not get you and your business out of the hole. Nothing good ever comes out of a negative state of mind. You have to be able to look at the possibilities and know that your best days are yet ahead of you to pull you through this season.

Beating yourself up will not change a thing. To the contrary, it will just make things worse for you. Give yourself a designated time to feel bad about the situation, cry, scream do whatever you need to do and then get up and go into beast mode to get the problem resolved.

4. Do a Business Assessment and Make the Necessary Changes

Some entrepreneurs are able to do this for themselves, but others will need the support of someone else to come in to do it. Doing a business assessment can show you exactly where your gaps are in your business and how they need to be filled. The most effective business assessments are done by someone from the outside that does not have any ties or emotional connections to the company. Although there are some companies that can do them effectively from the inside.

The most important factors related to this is that the problems are identified, changes are made and the challenges that have been reeking havoc on the business are ultimately resolved.

5. Get Support

Often times we cannot do this on our own. It often requires assistance to make it to the other side. I am always astonished at how entrepreneurs with no business education or previous experience think that they are supposed to be able to find success in business simply by starting one. When I discuss this with entrepreneurs, they are often surprised by how ridiculous that sounds, but so many have succumbed to it.

If you have not been educated on how to create and grow a successful business, you are doing a tremendous disservice to your business and ultimately yourself. I can’t begin to express to you how factual of a statement that is. And the lack of you doing so will be your ultimate downfall.

monique-manigault-business-strategies

If you are not satisfied or happy with where things are in your business, it is your fault. As a business owner, you are responsible for guiding and keeping the ship afloat. If you cannot do it on your own, it is your sole responsibility to get the support you need from others to help you find your way. And if you don’t, you deserve exactly what you get.

This may sound harsh to you, but this is a simple fact and if you don’t shift your mindset around what is required to create and build a successful business, you will be part of that ever growing statistic of the majority of businesses that open and close in just a matter of a few short years.

Don’t become a statistic because of your ego. Give yourself every chance you can to create a business and the life that you, your family and your unborn legacy deserves.
