The Ever Present Element of Fear – Part 1

The Ever Present Element of Fear – Part 1

One of the first things that I encounter when working with my clients, whether it’s a business client or a client that I am working with regarding life issues, is the ever present element of fear. Often times people don’t even understand the depths of how fear is showing up for them in their lives. They don’t necessarily attribute a particular behavior to fear, but when I start to pull back the layers looking for the actual culprit, most often the center of it is fear.

fear

Fear is the greatest thief of many peoples’ otherwise amazing successes. I believe that our greatest blessings are found on the other side of our greatest fears. But you would have to be willing to do the work to get to the other side of it. That is among some of the most challenging work humans have to do here, because very few people show up ready and prepared to tackle fear head on.

The fear can be associated with what others may think about them. It may be connected to them not believing in themselves. It could be tied to their fear of failing, but fear is usually the source.

Imagine what you could be and what you could do if you had no fear. Look at the different places and seasons in your life where perhaps you wanted one result, but ended up with something else. Did you end up with the result you had because of fear?

determined

Has fear prevented you from trying a new career? Did it prevent you from taking the plunge to love fully? Did fear prevent you from moving to a place that you’ve always dreamed about? Fear shows up in all places and spaces in our lives.

Do you let fear dictate what you’re going to do, how you’re going to do it and who you choose to do it with? Or do you feel fear and push through it anyway?

Pushing through fear is not the action of most. Most people will feel fear, be paralyzed in it, back away from it and retreat so they ultimately don’t have to deal with it at all.

A Night of Hope

A Night of Hope

What an amazing night was had by all that attended the Night of Hope for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital hosted at the Community Baptist Church of Englewood in Englewood NJ.

It was a wonderful expression of music during this Christmas season all to benefit the amazing work of St. Jude.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has changed the way the world treats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. It is also where no families ever receive a medical bill, charges for housing, food or transportation. Their belief is that all of the family’s thoughts, energy and efforts should be towards the healing of their child not on monies to pay for anything. What a tremendous gift, particularly at this time where so many Americans are fighting to just be able to have minimal medical care. And somehow, with the help and support of the hearts of many, this hospital continues and is able to keep its promise to their patients.

Most of St. Jude‘s focus is on the worst cases of childhood diseases. They do significant work treating children with sickle cell anemia. St. Jude is where the first person in the world was cured from this deadly disease.

Some of the featured performers at the event were The Violin Diva, Matthew Whitaker and Kathy Taylor. Every dollar raised went directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This is an annual event held at Community Baptist Church of Englewood and locations across the country.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was created by the late Danny Thomas. It was part of a promise he made to St. Jude Thaddeus for helping him find his way in life. He wanted to build a hospital where children with childhood diseases could get excellent treatment and the families would not be burdened with the cost for doing such. His efforts continue to be triumphed through his daughter, Marlo Thomas, and her undying commitment to keep the legacy of her father alive and fulfill his dream that “no child should die in the dawn of life.”

Finding Stillness

Finding Stillness

It is critically important that we find places and spaces which speak to our inner being. A space that allows us to get a break from all the noise that consumes us during the hectic, chaotic days of our normal lives. Although not intentional, our consumed living takes a toll on us mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We need a safe space to be able to pour back into ourselves and to restore ourselves anew.

Stillness is extremely important to me. It is when I’m able to quiet my mind and receive the necessary information I need to proceed.

I sometimes find such stillness at the ocean. The ocean soothes me. It soothes my soul. I love going to it when I need to just check in with myself and my world. It is one of the best places for me to find my stillness.

Another great place for me to tap into my stillness is when I run. I know this seems very odd because I am in movement, but it is indeed a stilling space for me. I call running my moving meditation. As I’m running, any potential heaviness that can consume me subsides. I can be freed from work, commitments, deadlines and the overwhelming elements that can be heavy to carry at times.

When I’m in my stillness, lots of great ideas and concepts come to me. It is often in our free time when inspiration can truly find us and make itself known. I keep a journal of all the great ideas that come to me when I run. It’s very interesting to reflect on it at a later time. These ideas would never come to me at any other time without being in the space of stillness, even moving stillness.

If you are open, stillness has a magical way of allowing you to contemplate the most important aspects of your life and release the thoughts and ideas which no longer serve you. It supports the renewing of your body, mind and spirit to fly higher, to go further, to dig deeper.

Depending on where you are, finding stillness can be an ever daunting task. But once you have become practiced in it for a while, you can literally find stillness in the most non-stilling environments.

A Magical Night at Carnegie Hall

A Magical Night at Carnegie Hall

I just love the Christmas season, especially in New York City. There’s no place like it during Christmas. It always feels so magical this time of the year and the season seems to make people everywhere much nicer and kinder than at other times. Walking the New York City streets with all of the holiday lights is such a beautiful experience that every adult and child should have at least once.

I was able to spend a wonderful evening at Carnegie Hall for Sing! An Irish Christmas concert with Keith and Kristyn Getty. The Gettys are preeminent modern hymn writers. The concert was simply fabulous! They featured many special guests, including guitar sensation, Phil Keaggy. His guitar playing is phenomenal. Kristyn’s angelic voice accompanied most of the songs. The Gettys are known for writing hymns that were sung around the world. Not only was their event fabulous, but they are both individually and collectively so intrinsically beautiful from within.

I had the opportunity to chat with them after the performance and at another event earlier in the week. At the other event, Keith talked about his process in writing songs and how it often becomes a collaborative affair. Kristyn talked about how an idea for a song can sometimes be inspired by a sermon or a discussion with their pastor. It was very interesting to hear Keith discuss the collaborative impact and the value that others can bring.

The Gettys have the Sing! conference every year in Nashville, Tennessee which encourages churches, individuals and communities to come together to sing.

Getty Music is an organization committed to creating modern hymns for the 21st-century church. Sing! is an initiative by the Getty’s to help individuals and churches deepen their faith through singing. Both Getty Music as well as the Sing! initiative promote theology, classic artistry and intergenerational singing for families and churches around the world.

The Importance of Making Boundaries Part of Your Business Life – Part 2

The Importance of Making Boundaries Part of Your Business Life – Part 2

This is a continuation of Part 1.

When I started to rebuild my businesses during the Great Recession, it was my goal to be able to create a core business that I could run part-time, from anywhere in the world, but not have its revenue suffer. I had colleagues who had done it successfully and I was determined to do it as well. I wanted to only have to work three days a week for a max of 20 hours and not have to work on weekends.

I am very grateful to say that I have created that life for myself. I built my personal development company so that I could live that life I had only dreamed of. But it could only be done by creating definite boundaries and restrictions in my business.

Many people ask me how I get so much done. It’s quite simple. I schedule all the things I need to do and those are the only things I focus on. When it’s time for me to do something else, I turn my attention to that. I don’t waste time answering phones, replying to emails or surfing social media when I’m suppose to be doing something else.

I schedule downtime for myself regularly, because that will allow me to be the most creative and allow me to work at my highest level. I studied what works best for me and I work and stay within those parameters.

You can create whatever type of business it is you desire. You are the captain of your own ship. You are the decider. You are the rule maker. It is up to you to determine what that life looks like for yourself, create a roadmap to get you there, get whatever support you need to make it happen and then just do it.

We are rapidly approaching a new year. Make 2019 the entrance of the life and business you have always dreamed of. You only have yourself to make it happen and if I can assist you along the way, please just reach out to me. Your new life and your new business awaits you as soon as you take the leap of faith to make it happen. All of your dreams are waiting on the other side.
