Why Charleston Will Always Be Special to Me – Part 1

Why Charleston Will Always Be Special to Me – Part 1

Charleston, South Carolina is a very special place to me. Not just because I have a ton of family there as my father is from there, but because Charleston has so much history connected to my family.

Literally, everywhere I turn, I am reminded of something connected to my lineage.

As I was standing on the steps of City Hall in the above photo, I noticed tourists stopping to read the plaque that was on the side of the building. Interested in what they were reading, I walked over to see what it said. To my surprise, it listed the architect of the building who was named, Gabriel Manigault.

There is a museum in Charleston named, The Joseph Manigault House. It was the home of Joseph Manigault. The Manigault House (also designed by Gabriel) is nationally acclaimed as a well-executed example of Adam style, an 18th century neoclassical movement of architecture.

In Charleston, there is an abundance of American history as well. From the slave market to the Battery. Not all of it is positive American history, but it certainly is important American history.

When my very hectic schedule permits, I will spend some time there researching and documenting in some way. For now, I will rely on the research of others.

One of my favorite places to go for lunch in Charleston is Magnolia’s.

I enjoy everything there from their fried green tomatoes to ahi tuna. There is something there for everyone. There are so many cute eateries in Charleston. As the city has evolved, you have your choice of cuisine you can indulge in. My last meal while there was Korean! Years ago, you would not have been able to find Korean food there, but now you can. Although, I am sure most people visiting are most interested in good ‘ol southern cuisine, which you can find everywhere.

One of my all time favorite things to do in Charleston, which I did for decades, would have been to go to the landmark boutique, Nancy’s on King Street. Nancy’s was my favorite boutique in the world. Unfortunately for me, I am not able to go there anymore, as one of my dearest friends, Nancy closed the shop after being in business for over 30 years (lookout for an upcoming interview with her). But if I was going through Charleston, even if just for a few hours, I was sure to make a stop there.

5 Reasons Why I Decided to Start a Blog!

5 Reasons Why I Decided to Start a Blog!

Blogs can be a very powerful way to share the elements of your world with those that are part of your community. Today, I am excited to share, as my very first blog post, the five reasons why I decided to start my very own!

1. It is finally the season for it.

After decades of tackling other forms of communication – as a singer, an attorney, a writer, a speaker, online marketing and now television – it just seemed to be the right time for me to jump into the blog world.

For years, people have been asking me to blog about my life and share many of the interesting, sometimes challenging, thought-provoking and amazing experiences I have been blessed to have in this life. Many have been wanting me to share more of my life – from those that work with me daily in my business to clients, followers and friends.

Although no one ever believes me, perhaps because I appear so comfortable on stages, in real life, I am quite shy and extremely private in ways. So, the thought of sharing my life in this way just felt abnormal to me.

We are so funny as humans. I can stand on stages in front of thousands to speak or to perform, but sharing what I consider to be my private life in such a public way was just too much for me. Well, that was until now!

2. I need to be stretched.

It is time to grow! I am always focused on growing. In the words of one of my favorite people in the world, Dr. Cornel West, “I die a death each day” to grow into my next place of being. I knew it was now time for me to expand in a different way that only creating a blog would provide. I tell my clients all the time how important it is to be stretched. Well, that applies to me too! And I have been feeling like I need a new challenge to push me out of my comfort zone.

3. I am finally ready.

Although I still have some of the thoughts I described above, I am now in a new place and space of being ready to share more in this way. I must say that I have been blessed to live an extraordinary life in so many ways and to be able to share some of those pieces with others I believe is a gift.

4. I can share my favorite things.

One great thing about having a blog is that I can share lots of things in many areas. There are so many favorite things that I come across in life, business, travel, real estate, health, and so much more that my ability to now have a platform to share them with others just excites me!

5. It creates another stream of revenue.

Well look, one of my jobs is that of a Business Leveraging Strategist.

So what does that mean? It means that I indentify ways for businesses to create additional revenue streams to grow at top speed, using leveraged components. And when creating additional revenue streams in a business, depending on the type of business, a blog can be a great way to do it. Most blogs are not revenue generating, but when you create one that is, it can be an amazing, fun way to do it! (I will do an upcoming post on ways to monetize a blog.)

So for all of these reasons and more I decided to finally listen to the universe and take the plunge into the world of blogging!

It is so ironic, or perhaps not at all, that on the day I took a tremendously courageous step for me to launch this blog, I would also be launching the Courageous Living 7-Day Challenge. I have to laugh at that, because although it was inspired by what I discussed on the most recent episode of Women on the Move (check your local listings for airing dates), the universe always has a way of divinely ordering exactly what you need, precisely when you need it. So, if you’re up for the challenge and need to build your courage muscle, join me and others as we work on strengthening ours together.

It starts today and it is totally free… http://leverageupyourlife.com/courage

I’d love to hear about how you are stretching yourself in your life or business. Let us know in the comments below, on our Instagram page, or on Facebook. Be sure to tag me in your post.
